PLAYER↴ Name: Kya Contact: Other Characters: n/a CHARACTER↴ Character Name: Susan Age: Species: half-elf Canon: OC (D&D 5E character) Canon Point: After Vorgansharax's takeover of Phlan (DDEX 1-14 Escape from Phlan) Character Info: Susan was born in a small village to an elf woman and a human man. His mother had a liking for "human names" and gave them to her two sons, and her husband didn't have the heart to tell her that the names she chose were usually for girls. Susan's older brother, Lauren, was more bothered by his name than Susan himself, though, as Susan was a very happy-go-lucky child. When he was young, his natural talent for magic began to show; even when he was only a toddler, he could cast spells as second nature, something that was very unusual in a world where magic was really only learned after years of study. Susan's mother tried to hide her son's magic from the world, but it could be difficult sometimes as he was too young to really understand why he couldn't do the things he was trying to do. One day when he was about four, though, their village was attacked by a group of undead. Susan was too young to really understand the specifics of what was going on, other than that they were being attacked, but he did know that his mother was very worried about this happening. She tried to hide herself and Susan from the attackers, but they were soon found. Suddenly, though, before anything could happen to them, the house collapsed around them, and Susan was only saved by his mother holding him close and protecting him from the falling walls. When Susan awoke, it was to his older brother (10 years old at the time) waking him and pulling him from the rubble of their home and his mother's limp grasp. Their village was still under attack, he could see the enemies, and his father trying to fight them off. The other houses were still standing, despite their own house, but he didn't think on that. Lauren started making him run away, as their father tried to fight off the enemies to protect them and keep them from following, and the boys ran into the forest. Their father, unfortunately, was also killed. Luckily, a group of druids came to the rescue of the village, and so the boys and the remaining villagers were saved. With nowhere else to go, the druids helped them to a nearby village, where they lived for about a year. But Susan's magic, which was still growing and becoming harder for him to completely control, started causing a lot of problems where they were, and eventually culminated in him lighting their house on fire. At that point, Lauren decided it was safer to live somewhere else, and with the help of one of the druids, they began to live in the forest. Lauren started studying to become a druid himself, while Susan spent his time playing in the forest and learning to control his magic a bit better, now that he was able to use it whenever he wanted. Things were relatively stable and happy for the next few years, until Susan was 12. At that point, they began getting involved in the goings on in the city of Phlan, helping people trying to stop the influence of the Cult of Dragons, and going on adventures with others. Susan's magic was still unpredictable at times, and it worried Lauren, and so he tried to enroll Susan in a school for wizards. Susan lasted about two weeks there before getting pulled out after learning next to nothing about how to control his magic - wizards' spellcasting, with their books and studying, didn't make any sense to Susan, who could control magic without a thought. He did, though, learn to summon a familiar, so it wasn't a complete waste in Susan's mind. There were more adventures after that, and eventually the city was lost to a Green Dragon, but nothing really happened that affected Susan too much. The kid is hard to faze! Personality: Overall, Susan is really just a happy kid. He has a lot of energy, too much even, and he is happy to be able to do whatever he wants. In a modern day setting, Susan would definitely be a child diagnosed with ADHD. He can never sit still, he's always on the move, and he always just does what he wants without a thought. That doesn't mean he's brash or doesn't care about others - he really does care, almost too much, about other people. He's naturally good at communicating with people and reading people, and is honestly just really charismatic. It's a good thing, too, since his older brother is really not good at talking to people at all. Susan often takes the lead in people driven situations because of it, whether it's asking for directions or trying to haggle for goods or even trying to threaten a bad guy to do what he wants. But when it comes down to it, Susan just wants for everyone to be happy and for everyone to be safe. No matter what, he will always do what he thinks is right for the greater good - regardless of whether that's actually what most people would think is good. He doesn't honestly even care about social norms and laws, even though he easily picks up on them, and he will often say something rude just because he's unhappy with someone, or will do something against the law because it's what he's decided is best. This obviously can get him in a lot of trouble, but he doesn't mind - he figures he can just always get himself out of said trouble. This of course is because of another important part of his personality - Susan basically thinks he's untouchable. He's had such strong magic for so long that he doesn't even consider that he could be unable to stop someone or be unable to help himself. He can always just use his magic to get out of situations. This, too, can get him in a lot of trouble, as he will carelessly charge into situations, throwing spells left and right. He very much is an act first, ask questions later kind of person. Even when forced to strategize or think of what to do before he does it, he still will often decide to charge right in - he just doesn't see the point in being patient or waiting. This also leads into the fact that he almost never feels guilty or like he did the wrong thing - even if what he does messes up or leads to a bad conclusion, he always feels like he was true to himself and what he did was right. It's only on very rare occasions that he doesn't feel that way, and even then he tries to not show it. All in all, Susan is a very active and energetic kid, who always says what's on his mind and does what he wants - regardless of the consequences. Abilities: -Darkvision (can see in the dark up to 60') -Immunity to magically induced sleep, and resistance to magical charms -Good survival and tracking skills, and can easily forage for himself and others and find his way when he's outdoors. -Susan is pretty good with a dagger or crossbow, and helps his brother to hunt and prepare food. He also knows basic first aid type things, although in a world with healing spells he doesn't use those skills much. -Randomly, Susan knows how to play the bagpipes. He picked them up somewhere and taught himself because he was bored. He isn't the best at it, but at least he can make it sound like music and not just a mess. -MAGIC: Susan is a sorcerer, which means that he can cast magic naturally. He mostly has an affinity for fire and lightning magic, although he does have some other spells here and there. Here is his spell list. The more powerful the spell, the less often he can cast it- and the higher chance of it going wrong... -When Susan casts harder spells, though, especially if he is emotional, his magic sometimes has... unintended effects. Often times he ends up bringing a fireball down on himself and his surroundings. That one happens a lot. Other times he makes himself unable to talk, teleports himself, makes himself invisible, and all sorts of other fun things. I'm not sure if this counts as a skill or power, but it is definitely a thing that happens. I can provide a list of these effects if requested, but other than the fireball spell most of them are fairly minor and silly. -Related to his magic, Susan can will things to happen how he wants and bend his luck. This mostly manifests itself as a slight nudge towards making himself or his allies luckier, or his enemies unluckier, and isn't something he can do often or knowingly. This isn't a very strong power, and isn't terribly important, and I am perfectly alright with it being weakened or scrapped altogether if it's seen as too powerful/world changing! CARNIVAL↴ Soul Colour: yellow Ideal Jobs: Anything involving persuasion or the like - talker, shill, agent, patch. Otherwise, maybe an animal keeper or magician. Relevant Experience: To put it in simple terms, Susan has max charisma. He can basically convince anyone of just about anything. In less D&D and more personality and character terms, Susan is a very cute and persuasive kid. He's very unassuming, yet likable. He's had to do just about all of the "people work" for him and his brother for the last 8 or so years - every since he was about 4-5 years old. His brother is an incredibly shy and awkward person, and Susan found it easy to talk to people to trade and buy the things they needed, and so it just naturally fell to him to do it. He knows how to haggle, how to get what he wants, how to try and convince people of things, and all of those other incredibly handy social skills that can be so hard to master. He picks up on social norms without a thought, and can easily blend in or stand out as he pleases, and can sweet talk just about anyone - without anyone thinking anything of it, as he's just a cute little kid. Susan also, as he's been raised in the forest by a druid, is very comfortable and familiar with a variety of animals. He would be perfectly content taking care of them instead. And of course he's a very powerful sorcerer, so no explanation needed for magician. :) Reason for Joining: Susan is very easily bored. Very, very easily. And so, simply while hoping to find something exciting to do in the forest, he stumbled upon the carnival. Susan isn't the type to steal, and he has enough coin he's earned on various adventures that he would have no issue paying entry or to play any games. But he's a bit too sure of himself when it comes to magic - even though he knows his magic sometimes comes with a cost. Susan likely got a bit cocky trying to play a game, and tried casting a spell to give himself an advantage - only to have it backfire and cause a wild surge, accidentally bringing a fireball down on himself and the booth. Whoops. If him accidentally damaging property doesn't work, then he very well may have snuck a peek into a show he didn't pay for, as he is definitely curious and wouldn't see any harm in peeking in anywhere and everywhere.
